Natural Coconut Shell Bowl (150 ml)

In most homes, coconut shells end up in the bin or the fire after the coconut is used. We clean them, scrape off the fibre, shape the edges and polish them until they’re smooth inside and out. The result is a light, strong bowl that brings a little bit of the village to your table.

Each bowl holds about 150 ml. That’s just right for a serving of payasam, a handful of nuts, chutney for dosa, a small fruit salad or a morning bowl of oats. Since every coconut is different, each bowl has its own shape, colour and pattern. Some are slightly rounder, some a little darker.

• Wash by hand with mild dishwash and water. Don’t leave it soaking.
• Wipe dry and keep it in an open, dry place.

• Avoid very hot liquids like boiling soup or tea.
• Rub a few drops of coconut oil on it once a month to keep it shiny and stop it from drying out.
