Item description

In Hindu tradition, panchagavya is the mix of five things that come from the cow: dung, urine (gomutra), milk, curd and ghee. It’s been used in poojas and homams for centuries and is considered pure and auspicious.

We make these wicks by hand on our farm. Dung from our desi cows is mixed with turmeric, gomutra, milk, curd and ghee. Then it’s shaped and dried in the sun for several days until it’s hard and ready to burn. No chemicals or colours are added.

When lit, the wick gives a steady flame and a mild, earthy smell, very different from the smoke of regular cotton wicks soaked in paraffin. Many families light one every morning and evening during pooja, and especially on Fridays, Tuesdays, Pradosham, Karthigai and Diwali.
