Item description

We grow ridge gourd (peerkangai) on our farm and let some of them dry on the vine. Once dried, we peel off the skin and shake out the seeds. What’s left is a natural sponge made of fibre. We cut it into flat pieces and stitch them by hand into two shapes, a heart and an oval, with a loop on top for hanging.

The flat shape is easy to hold in your hand while bathing. When you soak the loofah in water, it turns soft and springy. It gently removes dead skin and leaves your skin feeling smooth and clean. Use the oval one for your body and the heart one for your hands and feet, or give one to someone else at home.

The hanging loop matters more than it seems. A loofah that hangs in open air dries quickly and stays fresh. One left wet on the bathroom floor starts to smell.
